Q3 Blog 3

Would you take advice from a teenager about your credit card bills? Many people would answer this question with a big fat no because they would think that a teenager would have no knowledge whatsoever about credit card bills. However being a 16 year old teenager i would have to disagree with that statement. Just because teenagers are young doesn't mean that we do not have the knowledge about what to do about credit card bills. I for one know a lot about credit card bills because i always help my mom with hers and sometimes i even do them for her. Many parents would argue and say that all teenagers have on their mind is sex, drugs, alcohol and school. However that right there is an overgeneralization and is a fallacy. Just because most teenagers are like that and only think about those four things doesn't mean that all of the teenagers think like that. I would say that we teens have a lot to offer not only to our parents but to the whole city when it comes to bills and money because the way things look right now the city and state need help and new ideas about how to save money. There is one big reason why this does not happen and that is because we do not have enough ethos as teenagers because almost all the adults have this stereotype on all the teenagers and that stereotype limits not only what we are capable of but it limits the growth of the teenagers into adults.

Getting an F on your report card is one thing that all teenagers want to avoid, not only because it looks bad on your report card when colleges look to accept you or not, but also because all of the things the school will do to you like send you to tutoring. At my school teachers everyday urge teenagers not to be late because if you are late a total of 5 times to class then you receive an automatic F in your citizenship grade. So if teacher urge us not to be late to class then why do they not allow us to run to class so we can be on time and not receive an F on our report card? I remember a few years ago i was going to be late for class so i started to run to class and a teacher stopped me and told me not to run. I ended up being late and i got an F on my report card. That F did not only affect me at the time but now that F could hurt my chances of going to the university of my dreams. This normative ideology that schools put upon the students effects us in more ways than one and although some teachers may argue and say that the reason they don't let us run in the hallways is because its dangerous and someone might bump into someone and cause an accident, also instead of running how about coming earlier to class i would argue back and say that even though i run in the halls of the schools it doesn't mean its a 100% chance that i am going to bump into someone and even if i do what is the worst that can happen, maybe papers scattered everywhere and two people on the floor shaken up but thats all. The long term effects of not running to class and being late hurts the person more than crashing into someone. Also what i would say to those teachers that say that teenagers should just get to class earlier i would say "what if i have P.E and my next class is on the other side of the campus," what do i do then? The campus itself is basically telling me to run because of how big it is. Teenagers should be able to reject the normative ideology of us walking to class because it will ultimately affect and hurt us in the future more than it would if we crashed into someone.

Q3 Blog 2: Deductive

When i ask most people around my neighborhood "which sport is the best in the world" most would answer "Football" i am here to argue that statement and say that the best sport in the world is soccer. There are many sports in the world and none of them compare to the popularity soccer has. Statistics show that around the world over 3 billion people like soccer. At my school there are constant arguments about whether or not football is the best sport in the world and the so called "enemy" of the argument of whether or not football is the best sport in the world would have to be soccer. Not only that soccer is also one of the hardest sports to play and requires a lot of time and practice to master. Although some may argue that there are other sports that require as much skill as soccer such as football. However i would say that to be a football player all one needs to do would be to gain a lot of weight and muscle and you would be perfect for the game. The sport football does not require any stamina or skill because there are time-outs half of the game and the only actual players that need to be skilled would have to be the quarterback, because he has to have accuracy and precision to be able to throw the ball and score, and the running backs because they need to be really fast and have at least a good amount of stamina because they have to be able to run the ball faster and be able to get to the touchdown before anybody tackles them. Football is a spot that only requires brute force and strength while soccer on the other hand is a sport that requires speed, stamina, skill and precision. Soccer is also the best sport in the world because there are no time outs not 30 second plays and full of competition from all around the world, not just from the United States. In my school the most played sport everyday happens to be soccer because all u need to play is a ball and a bunch of friends.

Should parents have the right to genetically modify their child?

I always wonder what it must feel like to be deaf or to be blind: being a 16 year old teenager who can hear and who is not blind i cannot fully make the jump between the two different worlds. However, i have had the privilege of talking to a person who is blind before and he seemed very content and happy with his life. Then i asked him the question: "if you had the chance to be able to see would you take it?" he answered very sternly, "no because i love my life the way it is because i can pay attention to things that others who can see cant." Many people who are blind would probably say the exact same thing, but, they probably only say that because they have never been able to see the beauty of this world. Parents should have the chance and right to genetically modify their children to be able to see or to eliminate any kind of deformity because the child should have every right to be able to live their life without being segregated and without being handicapped in anyway. In the movie Gattaca a genetically inferior man by the name of Vincent Freeman is able to achieve his dream through hard work and determination. Having seen this movie more than once i am able to see and understand the topic of genetically modifying a child and even though this movie is an example of a person succeeding without his parents genetically modifying him, parents should still have the right to genetically modify their child. Just because it happened to one person does not mean that it will happen for everybody else and there is not one person i know who wouldn't want to have an advantage at something like a test, so why not have an advantage in life? Although some may argue and say that genetically modifying a person is wrong and by doing so we are taking that child's free will away, i would say that if we don't we are just condemning that child to a life of segregation and separation that they don't have to live. All we would be doing by genetically modifying a child is making sure that that child has the best possible life with nothing to drag them down and is that not what every "good" parent wants?

Blog #7: Compare and Contrast

a)
If i were to write an essay about these two pictures my purpose would be to show how desperate the people in Africa need assistance and to show the distinction between the two ways of life.

b)
Although both the African and American children are alive, only the American child is living because while the African child's heart is still beating faintly he is suffering everyday of starvation and if he wants to look forward to the future needs help now.

c)
I would organize this essay in a point by point format to emphasize the differences between the African child and the American child.

"Blog #6: Working Defenitions"

Term:Art

Definition by Negation: The term art has many different meanings in our society. Art is not trash, or something that does not have any meaning in it.

Definition by History: Art an also be connected to the man Picasso because he was one of the most famous painters in the 19th century known for his abstract art

Definition by Example: Art can be anything because everyone has their own definition of the word art. Art for mathematicians could be a math problem, art for a painter could a painting

Definition by compare and contrast: Art can also be compared to an expression of a persons emotions because that is what art basically is, emotions in physical form.

"Blog #5 Narrative & Description Response"

I woke up this morning and I realized that today was the day of the big cross country race at the beach. We were going to go against Mar Vista and so far in the season they were undefeated. As I got ready to go to the race i couldn't help but notice the clouds outside, but i knew that rain or shine Castle Park was going to go against Mar Vista and that this race would be the decisive one in the season, for whoever lost this race would lose the chance to be called league champions.

As i got off the school bus i and went to the canape coach put up earlier i noticed the other team getting off their bus as well. I was so nervous because they were all really tall and lean. Coach then told the team not to worry about the other team and to just "run your race". Since i was captain of the team it was my responsibility to get everyone ready for the race. So, i told the team to go to the bathroom and to be back in a couple of minutes because the coach had a little strategy for us to run when the race started.

After the whole team finished going to the bathroom coach told us the strategy we were going to run and how to run it. The strategy was basically,"run as a group at a certain pace and let Mar Vista runners start falling off one by one and just hold on to the pace until the finish." This strategy was one that i really loathed because when we run as a team and i get weary, uncomfortable and i get tired faster but as captain i had to suck it up and do it for the team. As coach told us to warm up and stretch it started sprinkling and i knew then that we would have to run in the rain.

As we finished warming up and stretching we took off our sweats and put on our uniforms, which consisted of a tank top shirt and really short shorts, and right then we got a full blast of the wind and rain. It was like taking an ice cold shower. The seven varsity runners then went to the starting line so we could begin the race. Already waiting at the starting line was the top seven varsity of Mar Vista ready to go. Next thing i knew the official had already shot the gun and the race was on.

The Mar Vista v.s Castle Park cross country race was one i will never forget because it was in that race that we won by a point in the overall score.Once the race started it felt like the rain and wind was pushing you down. Me and my team were all very excited and tired after the race because now that we beat Mar Vista there were only a few other schools standing in our way to become the South Bay League Champions.
